The review have a brief historical information of the use of cryotherapy in the treatment of various diseases, in particular, degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the spine (DDD) with pain and muscular spastic syndrome. The variants of general and local cryotherapy, temperature regimes and modern equipment used for these purposes in the review also are considered. At intensifying of the medical effect of cryotherapy use ultrasound, microwave therapy, impulse currents of low frequency et al. The analgetic effect of cryotherapy have the connection to "blocking" of pain receptors of a skin, normalization of antidromic excitability of neurones of a spinal brain and a functional state of the autonomic nervous system, change of a humoral and hormonal team with participation of neuropeptides system and endogenic opioids, a rupture of a vicious circle "pain — a muscular spastic stricture — pain". The development of neuropathic pain is followed by the strengthened production of autoantibodies to neurotransmitters of excitations and of brakes, and the increased induction of autoantibodies to neurotransmitters of the antinociceptive system promotes chronization of pain. The studying of specificity of cold influences at different methods of a hypothermia and of pathophysiological mechanisms of adaptation possibilitys of the patients under influence of ultralow temperatures is represent the perspective direction of medical science and of practice.
